The Conservancy has enjoyed a excellent longstanding relationship with the Sacramento Tree Foundation (STF). Each year, the Conservancy engages STF to count and evaluate the trees on Conservancy preserves. With each report, there is more helpful informative, and the level of graphic presentation gets more discerning. This helps the Conservancy evaluate the status and condition of trees on the preserves. As a result of the STF reports, the Conservancy has learned more about the types of trees that grow best in certain conditions on preserves, and expected survivability on various soils of newly planted trees.
The report for last year is downloadable free of charge by clicking on the attached image. It is fun to review the document.

Since the year 2000, the Conservancy has acquired LANDSAT satellite images of the Natomas Basin. The images help with tracking changes in land use as well as in the Conservancy's assemblage of mitigation land holdings. The Conservancy works with Ducks Unlimited's cartographic experts to acquire the desired LANDSAT image, refine it, and then overlay the Conservancy's properties onto the image (see red cross-hatched portions of the Natomas Basin). Each year, the Conservancy reviews the many satellite images taken in the autumn of the prior year. Some images are more clear than others, and some, like the image here for 2009, is cloud free. In this case, the fly-over image taken on October 9, 2009 was the most usefull to the Conservancy.

As required by the 2003 NBHCP, the Conservancy’s annual audit of year-end financials has been completed. A clean opinion was issued by auditors Gilbert Associates, Inc. of Sacramento on March 24, 2010. Representatives of Gilbert met independently with the Conservancy’s Audit Committee, which in turn presented the results to the Conservancy’s April 7, 2010 meeting of the Board of Directors. The report will be included as a part of the forthcoming 2009 Implementation Annual Report.

Necessary marsh channel clearing work was conducted over a two-year period during the summers of 2007 and 2008 on the Conservancy’s marsh complexes. After this, the only channel clearing and maintenance work that remained existed on the Conservancy’s Betts, Kismat and Silva tracts (collectively known as the BKS tract). The first phase of that clearing work was completed this summer after extensive planning and consideration. Read more >>
