A person whose property borders one of the Conservancy’s preserves kept telling me that there was a red fox roaming around on the preserve. I was a little disbelieving, but this is a wonderful neighbor. Supportive of the Conservancy and its mission. I diplomatically asked for proof.
Over the weekend he calls to tell me that a neighbor had actually gotten a photo of the same red fox, and sent it to him by email. He in turn was going to send it to me as proof the fox really did exist. Here it is. Hard to believe that yet another species populates the Conservancy’s preserves–we’ve got a very long list now–but to have one that is as interesting as this makes it exciting.
These creatures are known to be skittish. So with all the activity and people in the Natomas Basin, will it stay around for long, or will it head out? We’ll be happy to share the preserve with it! Hope it makes the best of it.
